Literary hoax written by Joseph-E? Tienne de Surville at the end of the 18th century, the poems of Clotilde de Surville first appeared in the Journal de Lausanne in 1797 and 1798.

"Clotilde de Surville was undeniably the supposed author who, for the longest period, caused the most ink to flow and aroused the most intense passions. The controversy surrounding her name and works indeed lasted for almost eighty years.

Literary hoaxes The life and work of supposed authors. Paris: Droz, 2001 [1989], p. Two other editions, dated 1804 and in the formats in-12 and in-18, appeared shortly afterward or at the same time at the same publisher. Three other editions, published by Nepveu and illustrated by Alexandre Colin and Alexandre Desenne, appeared from 1824 to 1825. According to the bookseller and publisher Auguste Nepveu, the almost simultaneous publication by Henrichs of three editions in different formats was an unusual editorial fact: "Three editions of these poems, in-18, in-12, and in-8°, printed by Mr.

Didot, are now out of print. This success completely justified the boldness of Mr. Henrichs, who dared to publish these three editions simultaneously; an almost unprecedented undertaking in the publishing industry. At the beginning of the volume: preface by Charles Vanderbourg. The work is illustrated with 3 engravings in copperplate by Fortier based on compositions by J.

Debret: a legendary frontispiece, a legendary header, and a tailpiece. In addition, there are 4 music plates engraved in copperplate for Stanzas from the Chastel d'amour (1 plate), Triolets from the Chastel d'amour (1 plate), and Verses to my first niece (2 plates); music by H. Very beautiful copy, bound in lemon morocco from the time period, rare condition.
