Rare scale model of an Empire screen, early 19th century
Rare model in reduced size of an Empire screen, early 19th century. Rare and very interesting reduced-size model of a mobile frame screen made of carved solid mahogany, blackened wood, and adorned with gilded stucco decoration. This work can be associated with a masterpiece of cabinetmaking; however, it seems to us that it is a model or a prototype before the full-scale realization. The frame slides perfectly, and there is a rebate allowing for the placement of a tapestry; a mirror can also be inserted to divert the object. A beautiful collectible item dating from the early 19th century, which shows some wear and minor old restorations at the level of the gilded stucco.
