Bressane clock in veneered and marquetry wood, with a Comtois-type movement, late 18th century to early 19th century. Important Bressane clock with a beautiful presence, in veneered and marquetry wood, featuring a particularly characteristic slender, violin-shaped silhouette. The tall, narrow case is distinguished by the fluidity of its lines, its vividly figured veneer decoration, chevron stringing, and geometric reserves that elegantly animate the front. The swollen middle section, the marquetry pendulum lens, and the glazed upper crown all contribute to this refined regional aesthetic, more distinctive and more lively than a classic Franche-Comté Comtoise clock.

The whole can be linked to the tradition of Bressane clocks, in which a highly characteristic regional case houses a Comtois-type movement. The white enamel dial with black Roman numerals, marked in five-minute intervals, is topped by an openwork gilt-brass pediment decorated with a radiant anthropomorphic sun, framed by rocaille motifs. The cut-out hands, with star decoration, further enhance the decorative character of the piece. Overall, both in its formal language and in its presence, it most likely dates to the transition between the 18th and 19th centuries. The case shows very fine veneer work, with spectacular grain patterns, broad mottled and flame-figured panels framed by contrasting stringing.

This lively decoration gives the clock a strong personality and genuine ornamental quality, while also reflecting careful regional craftsmanship. The glazed upper front, set beneath an arched crown, completes this vertical architecture harmoniously. Condition to note carefully: the enamel dial shows numerous cracks, chips, and damage, especially around the edges and the winding holes. The brass pediment shows wear and minor alterations. The case bears signs of use, surface wear, small damages, cracks, and localized lifting of the veneer.

The dial and movement appear to have been removed in the photographs. A very fine piece of French regional decor, elegant, unusual, and authentic in expression, ideal for collectors of antique clocks, quality provincial furniture, or distinctive interiors.
