Gallery of Shakespeare's Women Collection of forty-five portraits engraved by the first artists of London enriched with critical and literary notices. In-4° (253 x 165 mm). Green morocco, double border with thick and thin blind tooling, empty golden ornament in the center consisting of mascarons, a lyre, interlacing and architectural and vegetal decorations, decorated smooth spine, title and binder's name in gold, green waxed paper doublures and endpapers, gilt edges (Boutigny). Spine slightly sunned without gravity, slightly bumped upper corners; rare foxing, one plate uniformly foxed. Work comprising 45 notices dedicated to the female characters featured in the works of William Shakespeare.

41 authors contributed to the notices including Évariste Boulay-Paty, Philarète Chasles, Casimir Delavigne, Émile Deschamps, Népomucène Lemercier, Daniel O'Sullivan (publication director), Amédée Pichot, Jules de Rességuier, George Sand. At the beginning of the volume: introduction by Daniel O'Sullivan; essay entitled Shakespeare, by Abel-François Villemain. The book is illustrated with 46 engravings. 45 captioned plates (portraits of Shakespeare's heroines) based on compositions by English artists.
