Magnificent rare representation of Hypnos, the god of sleep, in green patinated bronze with a black marble base. Hypnos, son of Nyx and the twin brother of Thanatos, the personification of Death. He is also the father of Morpheus, the god of dreams and visions.

The bronze head was originally discovered in the small Umbrian town of Civitella d'Arna. Little is known about the circumstances of the discovery until it became part of the Castellani collection.

The British Museum purchased the bronze sculpture, along with other parts of the collection, in 1868. Our example is of very high quality, with great attention to detail. This bronze is mounted on a black marble base. Late 19th century, early 20th century. Delivery by carrier, 100 euros in France, 200 euros in the EU, and 300 euros for the rest of the world.
