Pair of antique fine earthenware plates, late 19th century, circa 1880

  

I am offering for sale this magnificent and rare pair of fine English earthenware plates from the Cauldon factory, in very good overall condition. These two plates are decorated with a beautiful pair of alliance coats of arms beneath an Earl’s coronet and were originally likely part of a complete table service made for a wedding. The Cauldon factory was a ceramics manufacturer located in Staffordshire, in western England, specializing in the export of fine earthenware throughout Europe, and particularly to France during the Second Empire, when the quality of its production was highly valued by high society. These pieces were then resold in Paris by major companies specializing in tableware, such as the establishments E.

Only a small chip should be noted on the rim of one of the plates.
