Scenes from the private and public life of animals. Period binding in full glazed brown calf, golden monogram and crowned framed by a large cold ornament on the covers, golden frame line, smooth spine adorned with small animal motifs, golden title and numbering, gilt edges.

Engraved frontispiece and title, 94 illustrations out of text in the first volume and 105 in the second. First edition in its first printing as evidenced by the printing of the first half of volume 1 on cream paper while the second is on white paper. The second volume also presents all the characteristics of a first edition as described by Brivois. Beautiful example in glazed calf of the period, showing rubbing on the joints.
