Empire Period Bronze Mercury Pendulum
It presents an elegant allegory of the Arts, depicted as a young woman draped in the antique style, accompanied by a lyre, a torch, a laurel wreath, and a music scroll, symbols of the arts, poetry, and knowledge. The case is richly decorated with friezes of palmettes, rosettes, and scrollwork, characteristic of the late 18th and early 19th century. The quality of the chasing and the finesse of the gilding testify to fine craftsmanship. Condition: Original mercury-gilded bronze with a beautiful patina. The movement needs servicing and is sold without any guarantee of operation. Cracked back glass (see photos). Normal signs of use consistent with its age. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
