DANCE CARD and PURSE in Tortoiseshell and 14K Gold. Napoleon III period - 19th century.

Very lovely dance card with its purse in tortoiseshell finely inlaid with solid 14-karat gold.

The dance card opens to reveal a gusseted pocket in purple moiré silk and a blank-page notebook with finely gilt edges, fitted with a small concealed pencil that closes the whole piece. The purse opens to reveal four leather gussets, including one secret compartment with an inner clasp. The two pieces are presented in their original case, lined with silk and red velvet.

The gold has been tested with a touchstone. Fine period pieces from the Napoleon III era, circa 1860. This set is in good overall condition and of very fine quality. Please note: small losses to the tortoiseshell on the edges of the dance card and oxidation on the purse, with signs of age and use.
