Bronze 19th Century Neo-Gothic Incense Shuttle by Viollet le Duc

  

Rare incense boat in bronze in neo-Gothic style from the Viollet le Duc period around 1840 - 1860. Superb vegetal decoration of stylized scrolls, perfectly in the style of the 13th century, especially the ironwork hinges.

The lobed foot with alternating decoration of flowers and four-leaf motifs from the 14th century, complete with its spoon adorned with a cross. Very beautiful bronze casting work, probably made for an important church or cathedral. Old patina, it is possible that the object was originally silvered. Good overall condition, slight dent at the base.
