Antique Porcelain Inkwell from Paris, Nautilus Shell Gold, 19th Century, Hourglass
Superb 19th-century porcelain inkwell, shaped in the elegant, naturalistic form of a nautilus shell. A beautiful display or desk piece, ideal for collectors of antique writing accessories. Very fine grooved detailing enhanced with fine gold lines, alternating with dots and green and old-rose enamel decoration. Rectangular base adorned with a gilded frieze of vegetal scrolls, resting on four gilded lion-paw feet. It includes its two original pen rests and its period perforated brass sander / blotter. The central space is waiting for its glass or porcelain ink well. No mark or signature visible on the underside of the base (typical production of Paris porcelain from this period). Condition as shown in the detailed photos. Authentic piece in its original state, showing signs of age that add to its charm. Please note several chips visible on the upper rim of the porcelain and normal wear to the gilding in places.
No major cracks or hidden restoration. Very careful and secure shipping.
